Obesity - The Key factors that cause obesity

According to a recent study, over 300 million people all over the world are obese. About one-third of these people are morbidly obese. These startling figures prove one irrefutable fact – obesity is a global epidemic. And if it is not controlled, it could be the leading cause of death in the coming years.

There are many causes of obesity. Some of them are:

Heredity: Children born to overweight or obese parents tend to be obese even at a very young age. However, studies show that it is not genes alone that cause obesity in these children. They ape their parents in food and lifestyle habits. These unhealthy habits make them obese.

Food: Today, our food choices are more convenience-centric than nutrition-centric. Men, women and children are so busy with their schedules that there is little time to prepare food. As a result, we dig into fast food packs filled with fat, salt, sugar and carbohydrates. Restaurant food and takeaways are important causes of obesity.

Lifestyle factors: A sedentary lifestyle is one of the leading causes of obesity. Most people these days have jobs that involve minimal physical work. At home too, they vegetate in front of the TV or computer. Rising food intake and lack of activity makes your body a veritable storehouse of fat.

Psychological factors: With the rising pressures of modern life, a lot of people are turning to food for comfort. People eat when they are sad, depressed, lonely, frustrated or plain bored. Why, they even eat to celebrate! All this makes it almost impossible for us to perform the act of eating solely for the purpose of fulfilling hunger.

Physiological factors: In a small number of people, certain physiological conditions can lead to obesity. Problems such as hypothyroidism and Prader Willi Syndrome may cause obesity.

As you can see, the causes of obesity are not hard to find. The solution is also quite obvious. To fight obesity, you must follow a three-pronged approach.

  • Diet control
  • Effective exercise
  • Quality herbal supplements
