Losing weight is tough if you look at it as a monumental task. But it is easy to lose weight if you look upon it as just another job and take away all your negative emotions concerning weight loss.

How do I know? As a police woman turned sit-at-home mother of three, turned working mother of three, I think I can safely say that I’ve done it all. When I was in the force, I never had to worry about my weight. Those were the good old days when I took my slim self for granted. Then, I became a mother. That changed everything. I decided to stay at home and you can imagine what that means. Lack of vigorous activity, too much food and too little time for myself. That’s when I started to put on weight.

From then on, I struggled with my body for a few years. I tried at least five diets before I gave up and decided that I had to develop my own strategy to lose weight. All the diet gurus were men who had busy jobs. None of them said what a woman with small children should do!

Tip #1: Eat sensibly, do not starve.

Starvation will only make your rile against the diet and weaken your resolve to reduce your calorie intake. Instead, eat sensibly. Increase your intake of raw vegetables. Add more fiber to your diet. Eat more fruits. Eat less fatty substances.

Tip #2: Drink plenty of water.

Your body often confuses thirst for hunger. So, even when the brain is signaling for water, you eat food. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Eat at home, at least until you reach your target weight. A single serving of fast food or restaurant food contains enough calories to wreck the effect of a week-long diet. When eating out is unavoidable, snack a little, so you can control your hunger.

Tip #4: Get moving

There is no getting away from it. If you want to lose weight, you have to devise ways to move your body. Whether you walk to the corner store, take the stairs to the office or join a gym, you have to move. Do something. Do anything. Just do it.
